About the Artists
Cherisse Alcantara
Cherisse Alcantara (b. Philippines) is a Filipina-American painter who lives and works in San Francisco. She received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (2021) and her BA Art Practice from the University of California- Berkeley (2013). Her art is a meditation on place and the need to dwell longer. While engaging with the observed world and language of painting, she conjures imaginary spaces that are anchored in the familiar and reimagines the built spaces she navigates.
She has shown locally and nationally including at Vessel Gallery (Oakland, CA), Pence Gallery (Davis, CA), Arc Gallery (San Francisco), Piedmont Center for the Arts, Site: Brooklyn Gallery, Berkeley Art Center, and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum. Her recent awards include the Murray Dessner Memorial Travel Award upon her MFA graduation, Jentel residency, and the Hopper Prize. She is a recipient of the 2022 Kreative Growth Grant from Balay Kreative and her project will be presented during Undiscovered SF in SOMA Pilipinas
