Diez de Bastos / X of Wands

Mara Lea Brown

Watercolor on paper

5.5 x 9.5 inches

$250

I carry the world upon my back

A world of gurneys racked

Upon my shoulders

Bearing down with loss and death

Fearing yet understanding less

As protests vie with pandemic

Vie with freezing Texas

None may arrest the climbing nexus

Climate chaos sea levels rise

And rest upon my shoulders

Demanding surcease

Demanding release

Freeze or breeze of Covid

Wrap my burden

Bringing no comfort

Bringing no warmth

No relief

Yet the pink sunset

Sinks to rest

As Covid slips far to the west

Beneath a forgiving

And forgetting

Heaven.
