CAST Presents: Summer Sounds featuring Free Press Music

Join us at The Parks at 5M for an outdoor concert featuring hyperlocal San Francisco ensemble, Free Press Music! Led by Filipina-American vocalist/lyricist/songwriter Christie Aida and joined by pianist Billy White and percussionist/guitarist Dave Mihaly, Free Press has roots in soul, jazz, blues, and improvisation.

Hear them live for FREE and preview some of their newest tracks!

Parking is limited. We advise you arrive by public transportation (nearest BART stop Powell St.) or rideshare service.

We also encourage a picnic blanket for seating and layers for windy/foggy weather.

Free Press Music


Christie Aida is the bandleader, vocalist and lyricist/songwriter for Free Press Music. She is Filipina-American and sings originals, jazz and blues in Spanish, Tagalog, English and French.  FPM plays at multiple San Francisco venues such as Illuminate Jazz Fridays at the Golden Gate Bandshell, Flower Piano in the Botanical Gardens, Bird and Beckett, Concerts at the Cadillac, Club Deluxe, Parks Alliance gigs at SkyBridge on Stevenson, the Lost Church, Revolution Cafe, Kapwa Gardens in SOMA Pilipinas,  and other SF venues.  Christie also sang in various gospel choirs and jazz ensembles such as Glide and the Aida Jazz Trio for over 20 years.  She also builds affordable housing throughout California. Please see www.thefreepressmusic.com for more info, gig dates, updates on our forthcoming EP, and/or booking inquiries.    

  

Dave Mihaly, (percussionist/guitarist), is known for his drum and percussion work with Jolie Holland and the SF improvisational collective Mushroom. He has manned the drum chair with Trans Van Santos, Bardo, Sean Hayes and many more.  He is a bandleader, composer and songwriter for the Shimmering Leaves. Dave Mihaly wrote and composed Vespertine and other songs for Free Press Music.  He also teaches drums and music.  For more information, please refer to:  www.davemihaly.com.

  

Billy White, (pianist), is a keyboardist, composer, producer, electronic musician and songwriter.  Born in San Francisco, he graduated attended UCLA's jazz studies program, where he studied under Kenny Burrell and earned a B.A. in Ethnomusicology.  Billy has played at the Kennedy Center, Amphiteater Monmartre, Black Cat, Irwin’s Playhouse and at Small’s.  He has won numerous awards and scholarships, including the David A. Abell Jazz Piano Scholarship, the Martin Feldman Award, the Duke Ellington Jazz Award and several CMEA Command Performances. He has worked with Blue Note artist Ambrose Akinmusire, Dayna Stephens, Obed Calvaire, Paula West, and Marcus Shelby, as well as crossing over into R&B, working with Bilal (Grammy-nominee), and Maiysha Kai (Grammy-nominee) and gospel star James Hall, contributed to Ronnie Spector's latest album "English Heart", and worked with electronica artists like Teeko, Captain Planet, and Pablo Ygal (formerly of Plug Research).  He has composed for film (the festival-winning Bowling Blind, 2011) and dance (Martha Graham School of Dance, Long Island University).  He has also worked in musical theater, co-writing the musical "Finding Harlem" with Rent's Ano Okera.  In 2010, he released "First Things First", an album of original jazz, which garnered positive reviews in the press, including both Down Beat Magazine and his native San Francisco Chronicle. See www.billywhitemusic.com for more information.

Art With Elders x Openhouse: Summer In The City Community Get-Together Art Walk & Workshop

Join CAST and Art With Elders at the The Parks at 5M for Summer in the City, a neighborhood Art Walk featuring artists from Openhouse, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that provides housing services to LGBTQIA+ older adults.

This outdoor exhibition is curated and produced by Art with Elders, a nonprofit that has provided Bay Area seniors with art classes for over 30 years with a mission to use the power of art, creativity, and community to enrich the journey of aging.

Come check out the inspiring artwork of the Art With Elders class and stay for a FREE interactive workshop led by professional artists and art instructors Darcie O'Brien and Hugh Leeman of Arts with Elders.

Materials will be provided and all ages/skill levels are welcome!
